"PERFORMANCE AT WILDHARE, CHICAGO, IL."
BIO
The windy city has also been known for bringing the fiyah and this artist is gas to the flame.
The artist known to the world as 'Daws' was born in arguably the best city on the globe: Chicago. Introduced to the world in 1980, Jason Dawson has always been the man his mother envisioned. Due to having to take up slack for an absent father, 'Daws' had manly responsibilities in his early years.
Fast Forward: Summertime, Chicago, 1996. For Chicago high school students at this time, a revolution was beginning and a dividing line between foundation and aspiration would be etched forever. The foundation, Chicago was, is, and always will be a city built on Gang affiliation, for all races. The aspiration, Hip-Hop (not just the music, but the culture) was making some youth in the city, including 'Daws', realize their potential and calling.
Influenced by the city's past and present (i.e.: Common) and the future (i.e.: Lupe Fiasco), 'Daws' began the process of honing his craft in search of reaching the masses with his message. To an artist who’d been penning rhymes since the age of seven, this was his calling. “The first song I remember knowing was, 'The Wild Wild West', by Kool Moe D. I used to live downtown on 29th street; my grandmother taught me the words.” She also posed the question that would change his life forever: "Do you think you could write a rap like this" - that's exactly what he did.
“Writing is my calling. I have always been a strong writer and received accolades in school for short stories or papers.”
Pain caused by obstacles in his life soon turned into motivation, directing him through high school and onto attending Southern Illinois. While going through college, 'Daws' continued to expand on his talent while gathering a following.
Bringing it back to the Chi, 'Daws' decided to take his gift to the next level with the ultimate goal of giving the world his message-having each person's ear it touches become an instant lover. There are 5 major aspects to the "Culture": Writing, Graphing, B-Boy'n, DJ'n, and MC'n. “Since 1987 I have been preparing myself, through writing, to become a prolific MC”…
…and that’s exactly what’s going to happen
